Learn Microsoft Azure

Microsoft's cloud: compute, data, identity and networking services

36 lessons · 8 hours · 4 levels · covers Microsoft Azure 2026 (Azure CLI 2.9x, Bicep 0.4x)

Microsoft Azure is a public cloud platform offering hundreds of services, from virtual machines and Kubernetes to managed databases, serverless functions, messaging and identity with Microsoft Entra ID. Companies use it to host applications, data platforms and enterprise workloads, especially where Microsoft 365, .NET and Windows Server are already in use. Learning Azure means learning its resource model, identity and RBAC, networking and the managed services that replace undifferentiated infrastructure work.

All 36 lessons, in order

Foundations

  1. Tenants, subscriptions and resource groups · Essentials · 10 min

How Azure organizes everything: a tenant, management groups, subscriptions, resource groups and resources.

  2. Regions, availability zones and pairs · Essentials · 9 min

Where Azure resources physically run, and how zones and paired regions protect you from failures.

  3. Resource Manager, IDs, tags and locks · Essentials · 10 min

Azure Resource Manager is the single API behind the portal, CLI and IaC; learn resource IDs, providers, tags and locks.

Automation and governance

  1. Azure CLI essentials · Essentials · 12 min

Sign in, pick a subscription, create resources and shape output with --query and -o.

  2. Infrastructure as code with Bicep · Practical · 15 min

Declare resources in Bicep files with params, outputs and modules, and deploy them repeatably.

  3. Azure Policy and governance · Advanced · 15 min

Enforce and audit rules on resources with policy definitions, initiatives, effects and remediation.

  4. ARM deployments in depth: modes, what-if, stacks · Expert · 18 min

How ARM actually applies templates: PUT semantics, incremental vs complete mode, what-if, deployment stacks and limits.

  5. Landing zones and enterprise-scale design · Expert · 18 min

Design a multi-subscription Azure estate: management group hierarchy, platform landing zones, hub-spoke and subscription vending.

Identity and security

  1. Microsoft Entra ID: identities · Essentials · 12 min

Users, groups, app registrations and service principals: the identities Azure authenticates.

  2. Azure RBAC: roles and scopes · Essentials · 12 min

Grant least-privilege access with role assignments: who (principal), what (role) and where (scope).

  3. Managed identities and DefaultAzureCredential · Practical · 12 min

Give Azure-hosted code an Entra identity with no secrets to store, rotate or leak.

  4. Key Vault: secrets, keys and certificates · Practical · 12 min

Store secrets, encryption keys and TLS certificates centrally, accessed through RBAC and managed identities.

  5. Workload identity federation · Expert · 15 min

Let GitHub Actions, Kubernetes pods and other clouds get Entra tokens by exchanging their own OIDC tokens, with no secrets.

Compute

  1. Virtual machines · Essentials · 12 min

Create and manage Linux VMs: images, sizes, disks, SSH access and what you pay for.

  2. App Service web apps · Essentials · 12 min

Host web apps and APIs on a managed platform: plans, runtimes, app settings and deployment slots.

  3. Azure Functions: triggers and bindings · Practical · 14 min

Run event-driven code that scales automatically, wired to HTTP, timers, queues and more with triggers and bindings.

  4. Container Apps and Container Registry · Practical · 15 min

Run containers serverlessly with ingress, revisions and KEDA autoscaling, pulling images from Azure Container Registry.

  5. VM scale sets and load balancing · Practical · 13 min

Run many identical VMs behind a load balancer, spread across zones, with autoscale and automatic repair.

  6. Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) · Advanced · 18 min

Managed Kubernetes: control plane tiers, node pools, networking, identity and upgrades.

Networking

  1. VNets, subnets and NSGs · Essentials · 14 min

Build private networks with address spaces and subnets, and filter traffic with network security groups.

  2. Private endpoints and private DNS · Advanced · 15 min

Reach PaaS services over a private IP in your VNet, and get the DNS right so names resolve to it.

  3. Front Door, CDN and global routing · Advanced · 13 min

Global layer-7 entry point with caching, WAF and failover across regions, and how it compares to other load balancers.

Storage and databases

  1. Storage accounts and redundancy · Essentials · 10 min

One storage account hosts blobs, queues, files and tables; choose its kind, performance and redundancy.

  2. Blob Storage: containers, tiers and SAS · Essentials · 12 min

Store objects in containers, pick hot/cool/cold/archive tiers, and grant temporary access safely.

  3. Azure SQL Database · Practical · 14 min
