Every technique uses the same layout, so once you can drive one, you can drive them all.
Open Explore and pick Blank (or a template such as Funnel exploration or Free form). The screen has three panels.
Variables (left) is the shopping list for the whole exploration: a name, the date range, and the segments, dimensions and metrics you have imported. Click the + next to each to open a picker and tick what you need; up to 20 dimensions and 20 metrics per exploration. Nothing you add here shows up yet; it just becomes available to tabs.
Tab settings (middle) configures the current tab: the technique, the visualisation, and the slots that technique offers. For a free-form table the slots are Rows, Columns, Values (metrics) and Filters; a funnel has Steps and Breakdown; a path has Starting point and Node type. You fill slots by dragging from Variables or by clicking a slot and choosing. Segments dropped here apply only to this tab, so you can compare the same table with and without a segment on two tabs.
Canvas (right) renders the result and updates as you change settings. Right-click a row, bar or node for actions: Include only / Exclude (creates a tab filter), Create segment from selection, View users (opens User explorer for those users).
Tabs sit across the top; duplicate a tab to branch off an analysis and keep the original. Everything auto-saves; there is no save button. Renaming the exploration and its tabs is worth the five seconds when you have twenty of them.
The sampling/thresholding indicator sits at the top right of the canvas; check it before quoting a number.
The Share icon makes the exploration visible read-only to others on the property; they can Duplicate to get an editable copy. Export gives Google Sheets, TSV, CSV or PDF.
Remember
- Variables = what is available; Tab settings = how this tab uses it; Canvas = result
- Segments applied in Tab settings affect only that tab
- Right-click the canvas to filter, segment or view users; everything auto-saves
